Chair Person's Message:
We are once again gearing up for the Engineers Week celebrations which will take place during Engineers Week 2012 (February 17-25). These will include our kickoff event, the Awards and Proclamation Luncheon on the Friday before the official Engineers Week (February 17, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Center City, the location of last year’s Luncheon). The Young Engineers Social will be in the beginning of Engineers Week, and the concluding event, the Celebration of Engineering Reception, will be toward the end of Engineers Week. The website will be updated as the details of these events are confirmed.
In addition to the three events during Engineers Week, we conducted another successful Golf Outing on September 12, at a new (to us) location, the Blue Bell Country Club. This continues to be an enjoyable event that provides networking opportunities across engineering disciplines and helps to support the Engineers Week activities.
As always, we will be honoring numerous award recipients: Engineer of the Year, Young Engineer of the Year, Hall of Fame, Outstanding Service Award, College Student Papers, and Scholarships, and we will continue with the Affiliate Awards Recognition Program begun last year. All affiliated societies are encouraged to provide information on those projects or individuals who have been honored by the society over the past year (since 2011 Engineers Week) as Project or Engineer / Member of the Year or similar designation. These recipients will be recognized in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Engineers Week Supplement and in the printed program and PowerPoint at the DVEW events. The information would also be included in various press releases prepared by DVEW’s public relations consultant.
We are excited to continue our traditional events, with slight modifications based on feedback and input received from you, the participants, to provide variety in the format and time
As with many organizations, it takes funding to conduct these events and programs. We know that times are difficult for many individuals and organizations. It is equally important to continue to educate the public about what engineers do and to encourage students to consider engineering as a career. Our sponsorship program has been modified slightly with a goal of providing more choices for everyone. Check out the opportunities.
We are always looking for more people to help plan and provide ideas for the celebration of engineering during Engineers Week. Click for more information.
Sincerely,
Robert M. Wright, PE
