David John Thatcher, P.E., is a
traffic engineer with Vollmer Associates LLP. He has worked for Vollmer since
his graduation from Rowan University and during that time has had the
opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. His current projects include
performing traffic engineering services for a number of public and private
clients. David is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the
Institute of Transportation Engineers and the American Society of Highway
Engineers. He has been a member of ASCE for over 7 years and is actively
involved in the activities of the ASCE South Jersey Branch. He currently serves
in the role of Scholarship Committee Chairperson and has previously served as
the President of the Younger Member Group.
Mr. Thatcher was born in
Philadelphia, PA and currently resides in Wilmington, DE with his wife, Fabiola,
and their son, Logan. He excelled academically at Burlington City High School,
which enabled him to be awarded a full scholarship to Rowan University as a
member of the first class of Engineering students at the school. He received a
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in May 2000 and remains actively
involved with the University including serving as a member of the Civil
Engineering Advisory Board.
David has enjoyed the experience
of being involved with ASCE and serving in various roles of responsibility. In
recent years, his activity has focused on the expansion of the South Jersey
Branch’s scholarship offerings. The scholarship program has been expanded from
offering a single scholarship for a student already enrolled in a civil
engineering program to also offering a scholarship to a high school student that
would like to pursue a degree in civil engineering. David has used the South
Jersey Branch’s Annual Younger Member Golf Outing to generate the funds
necessary to expand the scholarship offerings. The event began as a social
activity for the Younger Member Group and has been transformed into a
fundraising event. The event has grown each year, both in attendance and
sponsorship allowing the continued expansion of the scholarship program.
