A STIMULATING NEW VENUE…FOR AN EXCITING NEW EVENT
We invite you to celebrate Engineers Week while you explore one of Philadelphia’s hidden treasures! Join us on Saturday, February 20th at the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) for an evening of socializing, strolls through exciting exhibits and galleries, and of course, to honor this year’s award recipients at the 2010 Celebration of Engineering Gala.
This social/networking event to celebrate engineering will include:
- Cocktails, heavy appetizers stations, and dessert stations prepared by Starr Events.
- Award recipients will be honored with posters, exhibits and running PowerPoint presentations in the networking area.
- Future City Competition Regional winners will display their first place model.
- The Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year will provide brief remarks, followed by a brief recognition of the Hall of Fame, Outstanding Service, and Engineering Achievement award recipients.
This year’s newly designed format is the perfect match for this newly established venue located in the heart of Philadelphia’s historic Old City neighborhood. Located at 315 Chestnut Street, just steps away from the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the National Constitution Center, the CHF’s new museum and conference center houses a ground breaking exhibition, Making Modernity, and as well as an exhibit gallery that houses regularly changing exhibitions.
As an attendee at this year’s Gala you will gain access to CHF’s integrated museum and conference center -- a $20 million project that involved the renovation of the 1865 First National Bank building at CHF’s headquarters in Philadelphia. The transformation of the space and the design of Making Modernity were the collaborative effort of SaylorGregg Architects, CHF’s curatorial and exhibit staff, and Ralph Appelbaum Associates, renowned designers of the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
The renovated facility, which opened in October 2008, employs ecologically sensitive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles, including new insulation, wall tile made of recycled glass, and bathroom floors made of recycled cans.
On display for your viewing pleasure will be major collections of instruments, fine art, photographs, papers, and books. Beautifully appointed rooms and dynamic galleries will make this year’s Gala an unforgettable event.
