Future City Competition

The National Engineers Week Future City™ Competition challenges seventh and eighth graders nationwide to create the cities of tomorrow while encouraging their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through hands-on applications. The 2009-2010 Future City competition continues this tradition by challenging students to address the real world issue of affordable and green housing.

Future City motivates students to learn more about the possibilities and opportunities for careers in engineering. As they participate in the program, they realize that engineering is exciting and creative and that they can use what they know to make a difference in the world. Helping young people discover what the field has to offer is a critical step in ensuring that the engineering profession continues to grow in the years ahead.

The Philadelphia Future City Competition, now in it’s 15th year, will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Sheet Metal Workers Hall in Philadelphia.  Mentoring opportunities are available now and many volunteers will be needed the day of the competition.
